Dear beautiful joberg2c rider wherever you are in isolation around the world.
The biggest challenge next to getting COVID-19 is the uncertainty around this strange virus. We are certain of one thing: we want you to ride joberg2c. Organising an event like joberg2c is a year-long process, for example; one of our route builders Glenn Harrison has been camping in his pickup/bakkie for months building new sections of route, our race village organisers start organising as one event finishes. We live and breathe joberg2c as a team.
Thanks for hanging in there we have been blown away by the support and comments, these keep us motivated. We have found a way to move forward. We know you have been waiting for this and after long team meetings, we think we have something that you can smile about.
Cancellation due to Force Majeure and costs incurred implies that we cancel without much regard for the rider... for those who know us, that is not our style and will never be our style.
With this in mind, we have decided to offer you, what we believe is a true joberg2c offer. There will be only one option. Rearranging dates for this year is not an option as the planet is in a flat spin and most riders cannot even think about booking flights for this year again.
So here is our offer – please take some time to fully absorb and think about it.
2020 riders will be able to carry over to 2021 with a payment of R4500 per person (R9000 for team entry) to secure your entry. We realise that the world is a mess at the moment so you will have until 31 August to accept this offer. If you don’t take up the offer we will accept your generous donation which will go towards our schools and costs incurred. We will open up entries to other riders on 1 September.
The dates for 2021 are 23 April to 1 May.
You will need to log in to your entry and follow the prompts to accept the offer. This will only open on Monday, 23 March, at 09h00. You can find the login button on our website.
If any of you doubt this offer – our communities and joberg2c will be taking a massive hit to make this work. I am more than happy to personally explain to any rider who cannot work out how special this is under the circumstances.
We would like to thank our communities schools and sponsors for agreeing to help make this work.
If you have purchased any of the add on services, then the following will apply:
If you were riding as part of a sponsored entry, you will need to chat to that sponsor to see if your carry over applies.
Naturally, there will be questions around this – we will answer all emails and we will have a FAQ on our website.
COVID-19 is tough on everyone – hopefully, we can all spread the love and not the virus. Most important is that you look after yourselves and your families and friends and that we all play our part in this globally challenging time. And remember depending on your country’s restrictions, you can still ride your bike.
Now is a great time for a title sponsor to come on board for 2021, and be a sponsor of South Africa through joberg2c, if you have any ideas email firstname.lastname@example.org. Any introduction that leads to a positive outcome will be rewarded.
Together we will all get through this.
The joberg2c family
